1EdTech Korea launches, with Wicked Storm as a founding board member

EdTech company Wicked Storm (CEO Jeongjun Lee) announced on June 22 that it is taking part as a founding board member of 1EdTech Korea, the Korean organization of the global EdTech standards consortium 1EdTech. On the same day, 1EdTech Korea held its Korean launch event at the OCU Gangnam Learning Center in Seoul and announced the start of its full-scale activities.
1EdTech Korea first announced its launch on January 20 at the 1EdTech London Summit in London, UK. Its goal is to bring educational institutions, EdTech companies, and government together to secure data transparency and interoperability based on global standards and to build a trustworthy AI learning ecosystem. Professor Yong-Sang Cho of the School of Software at Hallym University serves as its first chair, and its founding members include Hallym University, Wicked Storm, Recos, DataDriven, Edint, and Learning Spark.
The Seoul event also served as a debriefing session sharing highlights from Learning Impact 2026, 1EdTech’s annual international conference, and was attended by representatives of the EdTech industry and startups. The session covered, in order, curriculum data standards through the CASE framework, connecting education systems with LTI and OneRoster and the outlook for AI integration, learning credentials using Digital Credentials and Open Badges, and evidence-based EdTech trends such as TrustEd Apps.
In his keynote, Chair Cho explained that since its founding in 1999, 1EdTech has advanced standards across the learning ecosystem, including LTI, QTI, CASE, and Open Badges. He highlighted cases in which countries have reflected 1EdTech standards and interoperability frameworks in their education policies, as well as the application of the CASE standard to Korea’s AI Digital Textbooks. According to the Electronic Times, Cho said, “Without standards, AI cannot help but stray from the answers we expect,” and described 1EdTech Korea as “a community that builds an ecosystem and lowers barriers.”
Wicked Storm has developed Lecognizer, a learning data repository that collects and stores learning data using global standards. Lecognizer collects learning activities from all teaching, learning, and operational activities using the xAPI and Caliper standards and stores them according to curriculum frameworks based on 1EdTech CASE; it has earned GS Grade 1 Certification. In the AI Digital Textbook project, Wicked Storm built curriculum standards based on 1EdTech CASE, and it also co-authored the curriculum standards section of the AI Digital Textbook development guidelines. In March, it took on KERIS’s project to build a learning data standardization framework and utilization model based on global standards.
In April, Wicked Storm also joined 1EdTech globally as a Contributing Member. As a member of the founding board of 1EdTech Korea, it plans to draw on its experience applying the xAPI and CASE standards to learning data and take part in discussions on standards adoption and interoperability suited to Korean education.
